Calella de Palafrugell (some kilometres from the hotell) is extremely beautiful. The restaurant Tragamar is great! The hotell: nice countryside kind of place with great potential. Has probably seen better days. But...

...today it´s quite run down. It needs maintenance to get back in shape. Dead mouse in the pool (!). Terrible smell of smoke in the rooms, forced us to check out one day earlier... :(

Think of this as staying at your shabby uncle's country house. Your uncle is informal and friendly (he gave me his biggest room even though I'd booked a small one), and his house has a wonderful garden with stunning views. The interior decoration is a few decades old - but that's what you'd expect from your shabby uncle, right?

I feel bad saying this, because the owner really was friendly, but the fact is: he smokes, and it bothered me. I don't like waking up to the smell of cigarette smoke, and for that reason alone, I wouldn't stay there again. Some things could have been cleaner, too (E.G. towel with bird poo on, dirty coffee cup).

A unique experience. Owner, Chico, was such a great character, warm and friendly and cooked us the best meal of the holiday. He is a wealth of information about the area and nothing was too much trouble. His home and gardens are very special and if you are looking for something unique then you will not be disappointed.
