Hostal l'Estrella Very good, 7.8 Palafrugell

I liked the central location. The rooms are clean and simple. There was a pleasant patio area with chairs and tables. It has a very family-run feel to it and could be a nice place to stay if you are looking for basic accommodation without too many facilities.

I was disappointed with the price of this hotel compared with its facilities. There was no running water from the tap and the towels provided weren't very adequate in size or number. There also wasn't much in the way of shower gel etc. I went at the start of June and the weather was unusually cool for the time of year - the room didn't have any heating or air-conditioning and so I was cold during the night. Also the length of the bed was too short and my feet ended up sticking out at the end (I'm 5 foot 9). I don't recommend this hotel if you require late night/early morning reception facilities as the family who run it are unavailable for anything other than emergencies between 11pm and 8am. I was on a short business trip and didn't get back until 11.30pm (early by Spanish standards!!). I tried to get in the front door but after 10 minutes struggling with the latch (it was a very old latch on a very old door) I reluctantly had to buzz the family to let me in. An elderly lady came to help me in her dressing gown and, while she was polite, she clearly wasn't too impressed that I had woken her up for help. I apologised profusely and went to my room. However I couldn't find a remote control anywhere and the WIFI didn't reach the room, which was frustrating as I was hoping to check bus times for my onward journey the next morning. Since I couldn't classify any of these things as an emergency, I just had to live with it. It was a Friday night and my room looked onto the street so there was a lot of noise from late-night revellers all through the night. Not the right choice for a business stay in Palafrugell!

Very friendly family , will do anything for you , very accommodating , perfect location , nice courtyard , family cats ! Rooms very homely and nicely decorated . 1 minute walk from main square

In case you might easily wake up to any noise during the night, bring an earplug, as there is a belltower close to the accomodation which might be a bit too loud. Did not bother us, though.

Absolutely fantastic and authentic. The beautiful beaches of Calella-Llafranc-Tamariu are very nearby (5-10 minutes by car, but you can also take the bus). Staff is helpful and friendly, our room was clean and comfortable. Breakfast is very nice as well.

We loved the patio and the hostess. Clean and basic rooms in a location that is not (yet) crowded by tourists. Tasty breakfast included. We'll come back in a couple of weeks.

Having read reviews of L'estrella I knew what to expect. It is not a luxurious location but excellent value for money.
